Pay It Forward Fund - A new program from St. Louis Writers Guild

St. Louis Writers Guild offers an honorarium and a two-year membership to each of our workshop and special program presenters. Often, these authors, publishers, editors, illustrators and others generously forgo their honoraria and donate them back to our organization. After careful consideration, the Board of the St. Louis Writers Guild determined to set aside these funds for a special program to benefit writers in need. Because this program is due to the generosity of our presenters and other donors - in essence, they are choosing to pay it forward to help others - we have named this the SLWG Pay It Forward (PIF) fund.

We don't want our fees to stand in the way of talented individuals becoming involved in the SLWG and its workshops and other educational events. We have a limited amount of PIF funds available to waive fees for those individuals suffering financial hardship. More information can be found below. Since SLWG fees are used to provide services for all qualified applicants, we ask that you carefully and honestly assess your ability to pay the fee and request a waiver only when necessary.

Criteria:

  • PIF funds will be awarded in the form of fee waivers solely for educational purposes, i.e. workshops and special events of SLWG that support the craft of writing and author support. They may not be used for membership, contest entry fees, or fees associated with editing or pitching sessions.

  • PIF recipients may not receive a fee waiver two years in a row.

  • Recipients will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. The St. Louis Writers Guild Board will determine, in its sole discretion, eligible applications based on application deadlines, completeness of applications, whether applicants have already been granted waivers, availability of funds, etc.

  • SLWG will not use PIF recipients’ names or other identifying information in promotional materials or in an otherwise public manner.

  • The amount available for distribution will vary. PIF fee waivers are at all times subject to the availability of funding and may be discontinued if funding is not available.

  • The PIF fund will be entirely supported by donated honoraria or other donations made to SLWG specifically for this purpose. Membership dues will not be used to support this program.

  • The application window for events opens six weeks before the event, and recipients will be notified two weeks before the event.
