1764: a literary journal
1764 is back! In 2018, SLWG tried to launch a literary journal. There were some issues and due to other writer’s guild priorities, SLWG shelved the project. Now SLWG is ready to launch 1764: a literary journal.
Any writer in the Unites States is welcome to submit to St. Louis Writers Guild’s literary journal, though there are only a few that can be chosen. This is different from the SLWG Anthologies which are open only to members.
1764: a literary journal seeks to publish the highest quality fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and more.

Pieces can be previously published, but the author must possess the copyright to the material. Please indicate on the form if the piece has been previously published.
Payment
SLWG will pay a one-time honorarium for the right to publish this story in a literary journal.
Short Story - $30
Poetry - $15
Essay - $25
Flash Fiction - $15
Illustration - $30
Young Writers - $15
SLWG Members - Pay rate of the piece
Payment will be made when the journal is published.
Publishing
1764 will be a full cover magazine in paperback and all the selected stories will be included in an ebook.
Selections will be made by March 15th
Publication will be in May
For Issue #1 SLWG is seeking:
Short Stories - up to 7500 words
Poetry - Max length of one page
Essays - up to 3000 words
Flash Fiction - 500-1500 words
Illustrations - Original Artwork
Must be in portrait ratio. Only pdf, jpg, or .png files, 300 dpi or higher, are accepted. No AI images
Young Writers - 9th-12th Grade - Short Story (max 3000 words), Poem (One Page), Essay or Flash Fiction (same length listed above)
SLWG Member - 1764 will publish one member’s piece, it can be any of the above styles.
(No overly violent, hurtful, harassing, demeaning, erotic, or political themes please. Please do not use AI in the creation of your submissions.)
How to Submit to 1764: A Literary Journal
Opens: Jan 1
Deadline: Email by 10pm CT on February 1st
Fill out the form and attach your piece to the form.
Please have each entry in a separate .doc or .docx file. PDF is also acceptable.
Every entry MUST contain: Title, Name(s) of All Contributing Authors, Genre, Word Count, Contact Email. Add these to the piece in the file.
(Only title and author names will be published)
By submitting, you agree to the rules for this literary journal. A short contract will be sent to each accepted author. SLWG seeks a one-time publication right.

Why 1764?
St. Louis was founded in 1764 by Choteau and Laclede. SLWG wanted to honor that legacy.
